Reading
When a new book is introduced, it is always a book that accompanies the theme on which we are working. For each new book, the strategy used is the same each week. On the first day, I go through the book and we discuss the pictures and make predictions. I then read it aloud to students and we verify their predictions.Students then read it as a group. For the remaining days, students are given the opportunity to read the book in various ways; independently, with a partner, in a small group or present it as a readers theatre. Oral questions, to review comprehension, also take place. There is also usually a focus on a particular grammatical structure, whether it be a sound or convention. Often, on the final day of our book, students complete some kind of post-activity to wrap up the featured book.
